Portugal striker Hugo Almeida admits
he would relinquish a return to Bundesliga following the expiration of his contract with Turkish
side Besiktas JK expired.
The out-of-contract bound forward
claimed he would relish playing in the German top-flight again after
featuring in Portugal’s 4-0 reverse at the hands of Germany in the FIFA
World Cup on Monday.Almeida has plenty of experience with German football, following a four-year spell at Werder Bremen which had him score 41 goals in 117 appearances.
The 30-year-old says the Bundesliga is one of the premier competitions in world football and revealed he would be open to a return.
“Bundesliga 1 is a great European competition, maybe one of the best leagues in the world,” he told Sport1 Media.“It was great to shine on that stage. I enjoyed it. Maybe I am able to return to Bundesliga 1, maybe I am able to play in the German league again.”
Almeida scored 13 goals for Besiktas in the Turkish Super Lig last term, also having two goal to his account in the club’s Europa League campaign.
