Oguchi Onyewu will continue to weigh
up his options before making a decision on his future, with a contract extension at Sheffield Wednesday still on cards.
The American defender is among those out of contract at Hillsborough to have been offered extension of stay. Onyewu ended the 2013/14 campaign with Wednesday having penned a short-term deal in January.
That
move allowed him to find regular football following frustrating spells
at Malaga and Queens Park Rangers, but the 32-year-old admits
harbouring ambitions of playing at the very highest level. The player spent time on loan at Newcastle United in 2007 said in the Sheffield Star: “Right now no decisions have been made, but I’m aiming to stay in the UK.
“It’s always a possibility that I will stay at Wednesday. But I want to weigh up my options before I make a final decision.
“Who knows, maybe I’ll have the opportunity to play for Newcastle again. You never know.”
Wednesday hope to convince Onyewu to stay at the side, with Stuart Gray pleased with the progress made by the centre-half despite his failure to earn a place in America’s World Cup squad.
